Closed Caption functionality
Sep 08, 2015
A few issues surrounding Closed Captioning (CC):
1. I'm experiencing an issue where the zoom function overlaps the CC text and the learner is unable to follow for the duration of zooming in.
2. The learner is unable to turn the CC function off during an interactive activity. This is a drag and drop, there are words placed at the bottom of the screen which the user drags and drops on the corresponding item. With the CC text on, the learner was unable to click on some words that were behind the CC text. The learner was also unable to click the CC button on this interactive slide to turn the function off. As a work around, they went to the previous slide, turned the CC function off and then proceeded.
Any assistance would be great!! Thanks.

Hi, Jess -- we appreciate your question. Please feel free to share your file if you would like the community to take a closer look and offer suggestions! :)
I'm having the same issue as you Jess with #1. Did you ever find a solution? Or has anyone else found a solution of how to move the closed captioning when using zoom in so it follows with the zoom in?
Hi Laurie,
What version of Storyline are you using? We have a new closed caption feature specific to Storyline 3/360. If you use the "Insert Zoom" region that will leave the built in closed captions visible, but if you're using the "Zoom Picture" option that expands the image outside the player frame and will cover up the captions.
I have Storyline 360. I'm almost positive I used Insert Zoom and the Closed Captions are covered up when the Zoom In occurs.
Hi Laurie,
Sounds good and let me know if you need anything else!

I updated my last response since you replied. Could you please view it and let me know how to troubleshoot the issue? Thank you!
Hi Laurie! Would you be able to share your .story file so that we can take a look at what you are experiencing?
Hi, we've had a very similar issue. We use SL360 and we have a "zoom region" set up. This is what's happening when we utilize this feature. Has there been a resolution to this issue?

Hi Ryan,
Thanks so much for sharing that screencast with me. Can you help me with a few more details?
Are you on the latest update of Storyline 360? To check, click the Help tab, then click About Storyline. You should see 3.13.15006.0 in the bottom-right corner.
Are you seeing the same problem when you test this link? I've also attached the original file if you would like to test that, as well.
Hello! Not sure if this was ever resolved - I'm having the exact issue that Ryan showed previously in the screencast he shared. I have SL3 and when using the "insert zoom region" feature, I lose the ability to view the closed captioning when zoomed in. They show correctly in Storyline preview, but not when I publish to the web (on our internal server). Do you have any additional information on this?
Hi there Betsy!
We're seeing a problem in Storyline 3 where closed captions do not appear during a slide zoom region, specifically in the Flash output. Fortunately everything works as it should in the HTML5 output.
When you saw the problem after publishing your project, do you know if you were viewing the Flash or HTML5 output? What web browser were you using?
Thanks, Alyssa - it was in the Flash output. It does seem to correct the issue when we view the HTML5 output.
Thanks!
Thanks for confirming that, Betsy! Hopefully the HTML5 output will work for you until we get this issue sorted out.
