Closed captioning future design options?
Are there any future plans (or rumors) that the CC tool will get some desired options for display, such as:
- Ability to move the CC field to different places on the content screen, like close to the bottom of the chrome;
- Being able to determine a consistent width of the CC area;
- Setting transparency for the CC box.
This feature would be so much greater if these options could become a reality. I'm sure other devs would have some options they'd like to see as well. Here's hoping!

I agree, it would be great to have these options.
From what I've heard, Articulate have deliberately locked down the design of the CC so that they adhere to the requirements of Section 508 and WCAG 2.0.
But at a minimum, it would be great if people could change the size of the font used in the closed captions independently of the player itself.
Regarding the positioning, sizing and transparency of the closed captions... it is possible to change these in the HTML5 output if you are comfortable hacking the published output. I'm planning on writing a tutorial in the near future that shows how to do this. I'll let you know when it's published.
Thanks Matthew, I'd be very interested to see what you come up with!
Great. I'll let you know once I've finished the write up Richard.
Hi Richard,
We're always interested to get feedback like this, and I'd love if you could share your specific needs with our product team here too!
Hope you're enjoying all the new features of Articulate 360!
I will do so Ashley - thanks. I'm using SL3 for now, and downloaded the update this morning. Great to see the team making all of these revisions and fixes!
Glad to hear you're enjoying Storyline 3 then. ;-)
Let us know if you need anything else!
I second all of Richard's suggestions. For language courses, it would be a godsend to have manipulable CC.
I am not comfortable hacking published output as Matthew suggests.
Richard, I've published a tutorial that looks at how to reposition the closed captions. In the near future I'll write up how to change the font size (independently of the player font size), change transparency, background colour etc.
Rick, I can understand why you don't want to hack the published output and I agree, it will be great to be able to change these things from inside Storyline.
Thanks for the update Matthew! I'll have a look at what you've come up with.
