I would like to know how to provide closed-captions for videos inserted into Storyline. I can do open captions, but that will be wasteful for those who do not want or need them. I am using a variety of means to capture or acquire video and can easily work with AVI, WMV, or MP4 files.
Hi Lawrence, Those are awesome solutions Ashely, you can also add CC in your mp4 video files and access them in the SL Published HTML5 file.
To add Soft Closed Captions in Storyline using the .mp4 file itself, use the Screenflow app for video production (or handbrake) that support SRT (Sub Ripped Text Files), adding localized text captions there, rendering with captions, then inserting video in Storyline, publishing then finally swapping out the Published Storyline .mp4 video file.
As long as you keep the inserted .mp4 files then same aspect size you're good.
This thread is a bit older so I'm not certain that Ryan is still subscribed. You may want to message him using the "contact me" button on his profile to see if he's able to share the specifics with you. Best of luck in your project!
Ryan, were you able to get this working on multiple browsers? I tested with IE, Chrome and Firefox for Windows and Safari, Chrome and Firefox for Mac. It only worked on Safari. Thanks!
Hi Ryan! This thread is a bit dated and I'm not sure if the user is still subscribed to notifications here. You are certainly welcome to utilize the 'Contact Me' option on the user profile to reach out directly if needed.
Ryan, you'll have to burn the captions in with screenflow to localize video. It does appear to be a Safari only mp4. However, I did this 2 years ago I would have to re-burn the mp4 to recheck with current updates in mp4 codec.
Can you test this with your screenflow??- If not I'll try soon. Ryan

I further detail the steps on my Blog.

Hi Ryan. The link seems to be dead. I'm very interested, can you possibly have a look at it? Cheers!

Thanks Ryan. Darn, you just added another software program I need to put in my Christmas stocking...Handbrake.
Hi Steven,
I'm fairly certain you can download Handbrake for free - take a look at it here: https://handbrake.fr/
