Color Palette Defaults

Feb 02, 2015

The attached image shows how Storyline uses a Theme Color Palette (at least, how it does for me). I thought I'd share it here in case others are interested.

Special notes:

  • Articulate's documentation says Control 1 is the hover color for buttons and answer choices in quizzes. In my experience, Control 1 is only the hover color for highlighting the entire response. Accent 5 is the color for making a quiz-response button glow when hovered.
  • Also, Articulate's documentation says Custom 2 is the default color for checkmarks when a checkbox is inserted using Style 3 or 4. In my experience, the Style 4 checkmark defaults to black. (Custom 2 does appear as the default color for the dots in radio button Styles 3 & 4.)

Ashley, sorry for the confusion. Yes, I know how to change the items on a custom Theme Color Palette. What I meant by "can't reformat" is that there's no way to re-format the impact of Control 1 or Accent 5 without changing the the colors on the palette itself. Perhaps these examples will clarify what I meant:

  • SL lets me reformat an individual shape's color, even though the color defaults toAccent 1. In other words, I canchange the color of a shape without changing the Accent 1 color in the palette.
  • SL doesn't let me reformat a quiz button's hover glow to something other than Accent 5. The only way to change the hover glow is to change the Accent 5 color in the palette.

That's okay -- as long as someone knows that before they set up their custom colors. I found out the hard way, when I ended up with a button glow I didn't like just because I had put a certain color I needed in the Accent 5 spot. At that point, I didn't want to change the palette, because it would affect other items that were assigned from the Accent 5 colors.
