Completion criteria and overall course duration

Feb 07, 2018

Hello,

I hope someone can help me with the following questions:

1) Is it possible to require a user to be in a course for the minimum course duration (e.g. minimum of 30 minutes) AND also pass the quiz?

What I like to make sure is that users don't just click Next, review and answer the quiz questions and then the course is completed.

2) Is there a way to display the overall course duration in the course, visible to the user?

Many thanks in advance

Jenn

Hi Jenn

Completion is either from content viewed (%) or quiz result.

There is often debate around the notion of required viewing v demonstrated ability, however, many organisations still like to known the content has at least been shown onscreen.  To ensure people don't just Next button along to the quiz, it is probably more practical to use controlled navigation instead of trying to ensure a total time required in the module.

1. depending on your wishes, you may like to use either a customise next button (or triggers attached to the player's next button) to control when the learner can advance from each slide/section/interaction.  This way you can have some idea of the amount of time required to make it to the quiz.

2. It is possible to build timers (using objects and triggers) to display time on the slide for learners.  There is a bit of work involved in this, and you would want to be clear why / if you need it.

My suggestion would really be to think about how the navigation and/or course structure can be used to provide this assurance.
