Completion status not capturing

Apr 24, 2014

I am preparing to deploy my first course built using Storyline and have encountered an issue relating to the completion status not updating on the LMS (we use Cornerstone OnDemand). At first, I thought it was because I included an 'exit course' button at the end of the course - I proxied into a test user and exited using the red x button at the top right instead, and her status updated to completed. However I did this with several more of my test users and the status wouldn't update, even though they passed the quiz. I opened a ticket with our LMS vendor and they said that the issue was on the course end, as the course was not communicating the status to the LMS.

I was able to workaround it by reporting on the # of slides viewed, which seemed to work, but since this is a compliance course I ideally would like to have the completion status based on the results slide.

From what I've heard this seems to be a recurring issue - does anyone know what might be causing this and what the solution might be? I've attached some screenshots of my reporting/tracking settings.

Any help is appreciated - thanks

Hi Adrienne and welcome to the community!

While I appreciate that the LMS has communicated with you, it might be best to test the content outside of the LMS, to confirm it's not an issue with the server or the user accounts on the LMS. Have you tested via another server?

I recommend using using SCORM Cloud. This is a very helpful service and it's free. You can zip and upload your LMS-published content, upload it to the server and test. You'll be able to see whether or not the completed status is passed from the course to the server, as well as access their debug logs if there are any issues.

The articles here and here may also help clear up common LMS issues.

If you continue to have trouble with this, are you able to post the .STORY file here? If so, I'd be happy to take a look and test this on my end.

Thanks!

Thanks Christine! I wasn't able to post the .Story file here, but I figured out the problem after testing it in the SCORM cloud- I had set up a results slide after the quiz, but I had the user skipping over it to the exit slide. I didn't realize that users had to view the results slide in order to capture the score.

Thanks for your help and for recommending the SCORM cloud!
