Is it possible to develop compound or multi-step animations in SL2? I have 4 objects (A,B,C,D) that I need to merge/animate path (A and B) (C and D) before finally merging AB and CD into 1 object ABCD.
I understand from looking the forum that objects can't have more than 1 animation path.
So I was wondering if there was a way to capture the end animation appearance of AB and CD and create new objects from those and then animate AB and CD merging on a new slide layer.
I thought this older discussion may help you out, as it's about starting a new motion path from the end point of another motion path. There are a few examples in that thread which may help get you started.
Hi, Michael -- Ashley is out of the office at the moment, but I thought I might pass along this discussion in case this is what she had in mind: Motion paths - starting a path from the end point of a previous path. Hope that helps, or perhaps others will have some ideas to share, as well!
hide objects later down the timeline and then change them to normal
I picked up this tip from someone here, maybe you Phil, and now I use it all the time. The thing I like about it is that changing the state of the hidden object to Normal (thereby beginning the applied animation for that object) can be accomplished via almost any of the triggers that are available for us to use in SL2, making it a very flexible option to use.
Thanks for the pointers, I do make use of the state change on the individual objects but it gets more complicated when I need to animate on a combination of objects. Maybe an example would explain it better.
Attached is a very rough animation to maybe explain the problem. Is there a way to animate moving the "house" to the right once it has been created. Relative starting point for animation doesn't really work when you want the objects to first merge then move as 1
Have you tried grouping the individual elements and then move the entire group once the motion paths of the elements are done? See attached a quick example.
Thanks Michael, I didn't know you could group the objects before the animation even started, I was thinking too linearly and wondering how to deal with the objects once they were merged

Hi Ashley,
Thanks for engaging. Would you have a direct link to the discussion you mention?

The simple way to control animations is to hide objects later down the timeline and then change them to normal when an animation completes

Sorry Michael it looks like my link didn't go thru, but luckily Cheistie
had you covered. :)
