Considering using Moodle as my LMS

Dec 19, 2014

Hello all!

As a small company just starting out with eLearning, I'm investigating the less expensive/complex LMS options to pair with our Articulate Storyline 2 purchase.  I found a fantastic post from 3 years ago about using Moodle with Articulate Quizmaker.  I'm just wondering if anyone out there has thoughts/concerns/suggestions about using Moodle with Storyline 2? I am going to install it and try it out but thought I'd bring it up here for great input before spending too much time/effort on it.  Essentially, what will I be missing out on in functionality compared to something like Articulate Online?

Thanks in advance!

I recently installed Moodle 2.7 to use with Storyline 2 files. We are just getting started with formal eLearning offerings as well so I thought starting with Moodle (Can't beat the price) would be a good option. If it doesn't work out, we can look for other options.

First, there was plenty of help within the Moodle community to help me when I hit some snags installing it. It wasn't that bad actually.

Now I've been busy configuring Moodle so it is simple and easy for our users, as basic as possible, at least at the start.  I've loaded 3 Storyline courses for testing so far and they seem to run normally, just like testing on the tempshare or previewing.  The issue is getting Moodle to display them the way you want.

One issue I came across so far is a document added to the Resources throws a 404 but I found a reference that the file names shouldn't have spaces. I'm trying a different file without spaces in another course so I can reload and see if that is the issue.

However, the SCORM package within Moodle seems to be displaying the Storyline courses correctly, in general. The grades are tracked though I did update the Identifier when publishing the Course for an LMS  (click the REPORTING AND TRACKING... button, set the "LMS Lesson SCORM Information" "Identifier" field) to match the SCORM Package "Common Module Settings" "ID number" field in Moodle.
