Constant Crashing - pretty awful!

Oct 29, 2013

I am trying out Storyline as I currently use Captivate and wanted to see if this was better - apparently not!

Using a BRAND new laptop with Windows 8 and get constant crashing so if I dont save every 5 minutes, I lose my work. There is no pattern to when it crashes, could be just simply inserting an image or previewing a slide.

Having read quite a few posts, seems like a LOT of people are getting this issue and the answer seems to be 'send us your file and we'll look into it' rather than 'let us try and find out what the problem is with the software!'

Why is this happening?

Hi Luke and welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

Can you confirm you're working with local project files, please?

  • Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior so be sure that you are working on your local drive (your C: drive).
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

Are you only having problems with one file? You could try to import into a new project. If it's Storyline in general, then Steve was on the right track, and you may want to try this troubleshooting.

You are welcome to work with support if you continue having difficulty.

Other people have experienced similar issues, but many times it is found to be unique to their computer/install.
