Continue timer when "invalid answer" window opens

Nov 09, 2015

Hi everyone,

I created a quiz with graded questions from question pools and a limitation of time. If the user clicks on the "send" button while no option is choosed, a "invalid answer" window appears and stops the timer of the basic slide. In this case the user would be able to check the answers on the Internet, which I would like to avoid.

Do you have any idea how I can continue the timer even if the window opens?

Thank you in anticipation,

Johannes

 Hi Leslie,

Sorry. I am using Storyline 2. This behavior is shown when previewing and even when published. The content is shared via a learning management System, ILIAS.

I am already testing the possibility that the answers are submitted all at once at the end of the quiz. Probably I can solve the problem in this way.

Hi Johannes,

I don't see the same behavior when previewing a course with a timer set up from the results slide. When I don't select an answer yet press the submit button, it shows the invalid answer box pop up but the timer is still continuing in the top right hand corner of my player. Perhaps this is a timer within your LMS not the Storyline player? If you are seeing this with the built in timer, perhaps you could share your slide with us so that we could take a look?

If you're ok using the 'submit all at once' feature that may be the best option if you're unable to share the file here with us.  Please feel free to let us know if you need anything else.

Hi Ashley,

okay, I see the problem, I didn't express myself clearly. I timed each slide with 15 seconds. When the timeline of the single slide ends, I added a trigger to show a layer with "time is up". This timer stops when the user clicks the "send" button without choosing any option and continues if the "invalid answer window" is closed.

But my solution works out, so I'm fine with it. :)

Best regards
