Controlling Audio

Feb 19, 2020

Hey there! Hope someone can answer this...

So I have imported an audio mp3 file to my time line and followed videos to  lean how to toggle the audio to ON and Off, but it doesn't work. (I am new to this program)

Realizing that Storyline provides the option to publish a menu with scroll bar and audio controls, I wonder if I really need to worry about creating my own controls. Would my training program be dependent on the Learner having the correct player using this method, or is the player controls embedded within the course if selected during publishing?

Thanks!
Rhonda

Good day.  You are correct, you don't need to build your own controls.   You can use the ones provided in the player when you publish as suggested, and those controls will appear for your learner, the player will be provided in the package (embedded) for them.

You can customize how those appear, look and feel, and buttons, controls that you want through the player settings prior to publish.  See attachment.  Good luck.

I think you misunderstood my question.  I will be using the player, whether hidden or minimized by the hiding of the player's element (prev/next/cc).  I'm saying it would be nice to have the same scrubber bar as the video player, but for audio files.  Any chance of making that an option like you do for videos with the "show video controls" option?

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the clarification! I appreciate you sharing what you'd like to see with adding audio controls to a .mp3 file. We don't currently support that feature, but feel free to add your thoughts in a feature request.

An idea that comes to mind is converting the .mp3 to a .mp4, or placing the audio in software like Camtasia and publishing it as a .mp4. The video will be blank, but it will provide you with controls for scrubbing the audio. Not the cleanest solution, but it may get you closer!
