Controlling Slide Masters when using My Templates

May 31, 2017

I have created a .storytemplate file that has loads of pre-branded slides that have triggers and navigation already setup for our instructional designers. I saved them as a template. And if I import them all into a file they work great.

However: The intent was that our Instructional designers would be able to add slides as needed while building the course. Not everything at once. But if you import them separately it is creating multiple master slides with each of the layouts attached even though they all use the same master slide in the template. This creates a huge mess in trying to deal with any changes you have to make to the master slides.

For instance. If I import 5 slides separately, they each import their own master as well as all layouts associated with them. And then in order to change the navigation or triggers or layers on a Master slide, it now has to be done in 5 places. Not to mention this drastically slows down storyline and makes it unstable when you have a lot of layouts in your slide masters.

Any advice on a better way to handle this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dean,

What version of Storyline are you using? We have an issue reported to our team that matches this for Storyline 360. I will include this discussion as a part of that report so that I can update you once we've got additional information.

Depending on priority and risk, some bugs can be fixed quickly, while others take longer to resolve. Here's more information on how we identify and tackle bugs.

I’ll let you know as soon as we have an update on this issue. Thanks so much again for letting us know about this, and I’m sorry if it’s slowing you down.

Hi all,

Great news!  We just released another update for Articulate 360, and included a few important fixes and new features that you'll see in the release notes here.

The item(s) you may be interested in are the fixes for:

  • Sometimes, variables would be missing when importing one Storyline project into another.
  • Each slide that was imported from another Storyline project had its own separate slide master. Now all slides from the same imported project belong to a single slide master.

Just launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for each application. Details here.
