Converting Flash Based .story file to HTML5 without the authoring file.

Jun 10, 2020

Hello ,

With the none continuing Flash player support in the web browsers, I need to open a Storyline file, which was created with the flash player support, in Storyline 3 to be able to republish it as a HTML5 file.

Unfortunately, I do not have anything but a published .zip file. Is there any way to recover the content or the slides from the publish zipped file, so I can re-published them in HTML5 settings with Articulate Storyline 3?

Hello Tuggen and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

Unfortunately, there is not a way to get a project file from the zipped published output.

Was this course published as a Flash-only course? Your published courses will continue to work if they include HTML5 output.

Hi Tuggen,

Flash hasn't gone away quite yet. You can still view the course if needed.

Adobe Flash Player 10.3 or later plus any of these web browsers:

  • Windows: Internet Explorer 8 or later, Microsoft Edge (latest version), Google Chrome (latest version), Firefox (latest version)
  • Mac: Safari (latest version), Google Chrome (latest version), Firefox (latest version)

If there is content that you wish to obtain from the .zip file, you could try using a tool such as 7-zip to dig into the files/assets that were used in the project. I'll leave any advice to the community on how they were able to accomplish this without the project file.
