Converting storyline course to video

Aug 18, 2016

I have created several storyline courses showcasing how to use a new software program.  Most were built with images and triggers/hotspots, not screencasts, but it follows a typical model - talk through the steps and then the learner practices the same steps.  I also want to create video of the "show" part of the course to house in our library of videos that users would be able to watch the short 30 second video as a refresher on how to complete a step when actually in the field doing it (rather than launching an lms e-course and completing the whole thing).  The problem, is when I screencast, I can't get it to record the audio without background noise, or with any type of usable quality. I've tried a separate program (AVS screencast), Articulate Replay, Screencasting within a new articulate storyline file - all with no luck.  Any thoughts?

I suspect it's your environment and not the software. A few things you can try:

  • Make sure you are in a quiet area. This seems like a no brainer but we ignore many low-level, constant noises in our home and office. These places are often noisier than we realize. Fans for ventilation and refrigerators are particularly problematic.
  • Make sure you have a good quality microphone. Preferably one that can be adjusted to only pick up sounds from directly in front.
  • Invest in a sound dampening box like this one.

Hope this helps.
