Cooperate and share files with player xml and textlabel xml

Sep 17, 2015

Hi there,

We work in different projects and with more than one designer. We all have the latest Storyline.

The different projects have different playertemplates (XML) Like 'Company.xml' and 'Goodclient.xml'

On top of that I use a specific textlabel.xml file like 'Dutch_je.xml' or 'Dutch_U.xml'

Question 1; Does the 'Introduction.story' include the information of the usage Company.xml and the Dutch_je.xml and does it reload this when I edit the file again. Or do I need to reload it after reopening the file.

Question 2; If I share this player.xml and textlabel.xml with co-workers does the  'Introduction.story' will it connect to these files, or do they have to reactivate it every time.

Question 3; Can we exchance files through mail or USB, as long as we load them to our harddrive and storylinefolder to work on them.

I like to have some 'good practise' information here to not getting into trouble along the way!

Hi Bea,

When you make a change to the player, that is saved in the particular .story file, although we do recommend saving your custom players separately, so you can reuse them in other courses or share them with other content developers.

I'd suggest share the .story file and the .xml files and have the individual users apply them to the .story file to ensure they're using the latest update and most recent changes you've made to either.

You can email files or share through a USB or shared drive, but you'll want to make sure everyone extracts/downloads/saves locally before opening the .story file or .xml files.  This article offers some good steps/reminders about working locally and how to collaborate.

Hi Bea,

It looks like the end of your reply got cut off here?

You can share custom colors (theme colors) separately as described here. The player and color scheme there can go together, or you can choose to just take the color scheme to use with a different player as described here.  Sharing a master slide should include the default themes, colors, and fonts set up (the other designers will need the fonts installed on their systems though, so you may need to share the font files).
