Copy a scene from one storyline file into another

Sep 13, 2012

I have 2 storyline project files.  I want to copy all the slides from file A into file B.  I have tried using copy and paste: storyline crashes.  I have tried Import: i get only a single-slide scene and the slide is empty.

My ultimate goal is to combine 2 files; 25 and 50 slides each, into one file.  These slides have extensive editing.

How do I combine them and keep the 5 hours of editing?

Hi Karen,

Really sorry for the inconvenience. It sounds like you're running into a couple known issues. If you import a Storyline project that contains screen recordings into another Storyline file, you may find that the screen recordings don't get imported. They may simply appear to be missing from the new story. This article has more info on that, along with a couple workarounds.

And when attempting to cut, copy, or duplicate a screen recording slide in Storyline, you may encounter an error similar to the following, or you may be prompted to submit crash statistics:

"Articulate Storyline has stopped working"
This article has more information on that.
Again, really sorry for the inconvenience, but we're working hard to make sure it gets fixed for our next update.

I am already familiar with the above links.  Neither solves my problem.

I need to import all the slides with all the edits from the 2nd file into the 1st file. I want to keep the edits I made to the recording, the captions, added graphics, deleted slides, added screenshots, changed timing, and added and deleted slides.

Maybe I am missing a vital point from the above links or my description of my issue is not adequate?

Peter, do you have an ETA on when the fix will be in place? This is really slowing down progress on a major project, as it means we can't really work on the same project on two machines. Thanks.

I am also having the exact same issue. If I try to copy a scene with screen recordings I get and error message. If I try to import a scene from another file, I just get an empty scene. The workarounds really don't do anything for me. This is a big issue for us as it really limits our ability to have more than one developer collaborate on the same project. Please keep me in the loop as well on the progress of getting this fixed.

If you want them in a new scene in the same project, Go to Story view, right click and choose New Scene.  Use CTRL-Left Click to select the slides you want to move to the new scene, then left click on one of them and drag them to the new scene.

If you want them in a new scene in a different project, open the destination project, click the insert tab, and choose new slide. Select Import and Storyline. Browse to the old project, and open it.  It will open a dialog box showing all slides, and they will ALL be selected. selcet the ones you want to import, and at the bottom, choose the scene where you want to import them.
