Copy and Paste Dropping Text Characters
Mar 01, 2016
We're using the latest version of SL2 and have noticed a new issue that hasn't been present before.
We have source files in PowerPoint 2016 and when we copy text from PowerPoint and paste it in to SL2 some of the characters in the text aren't coming through.
The issue seems to occur when we have multiple formatting styles within a single text box, for example, if we copy and paste a mix of bold and plain text in to a text box in SL2, any text in bold won't be pasted. The same applies to superscript text. To clarify, SL2 does not just make all of the text plain, it completely ignores anything that isn't plain and doesn't import the characters at all.
Has anyone else encountered this and is there a fix? Personally I suspect a compatibility issue with Office 2016 applications as this is the only thing that has changed in our workflow since we noticed the issue.
Many thanks in advance!

Hi, David -- Sorry for your troubles! May I ask if you are seeing the same behavior when you Import from PPT into SL2 vs. copy and paste?
Hi Christie, no, we aren't seeing the issue when we import the PowerPoint in to Storyline.
Hi, David -- Thanks for your reply, and would it be possible then to avoid copy and paste and use import instead, as you mentioned you are not seeing these issues when importing? Here is another thread where copy and paste vs. importing is discussed, and some of the feedback offered may shed a little bit more light.
That's what we're having to do but it adds quite a lot of extra time on to our process when all we want to do is a quick copy and paste.
I know it seems trivial but it is quite inconvenient being unable to copy and paste text, which you have to admit is one of the most basic features one could hope to use!
Hi, David -- I understand, and my apologies for the inconvenience you are experiencing, but importing may be your best option at this time. Perhaps others in the community would be able to share some additional ideas you can try, and if you would like to connect with our Product Development Team, here is the form you would need to share your input.
Hi Christie, the link to the form links directly to this thread, would you mind posting it again please?
My apologies, David! Thanks for letting me know, and the link has now been adjusted. :)
Thanks, I have sent a note via the form.
Re: the other thread you've referenced above, thanks for this but it relates to copying and pasting entire slides, not just text, which is where our problem lies.
