Copying and Pasting Items causes Out of Memory error

Sep 21, 2015

Hello everyone,

I've noticed this after losing hours of work on multiple occasions.  When working with large Storyline 2 files, the committed memory used listed in Windows Task Manager increases each time you copy and paste an item from one slide to another.  Do this too many times, and you will get an out of memory error and your project will not save.

When this happens, make sure to force quit or the temp file will not recover.  I've made the mistake of hitting Don't Save more than once, thereby losing everything I just tried to do.  (I've lost about 8 hours on this project now alone)

This seems like a massive bug.  Has anyone else experienced this?  I'm on update 5 and I haven't seen any update past 5 that would indicate that it has been fixed.

Hi, Michael -- So sorry to hear your are running into troubles!

Do you happen to be working on a network drive? Please see the following from an article on Unexpected or Erratic Behavior in Articulate Storyline:

If you're experiencing unexpected behavior in Articulate Storyline 2, do the following:

  1. Make sure your project files are located on your local hard drive (typically your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior.
  2. If it's still performing erratically on your local hard drive, a simple repair usually fixes the problem.
  3. If the issue persists after repairing Storyline, follow the steps below for your version of Microsoft Windows to uninstall/reinstall Storyline and repair its supporting software.

Please let us know if that helps, and if not, you are welcome to reach out to our Support Engineers directly using this form. :)
