Hi. I just noticed the import from Storyline option and wondered...have I been introducing problems by simply copying and pasting slides from other story files into current storyline projects? Does the import process do anything to the file that normal copying and pasting does not? Thanks in advance...
The answer to your question is yes, you probably have been introducing problems via copying and pasting. Most of these issues are easy to spot such as images that disappear onscreen but remain in the timeline or audio that is visible as an icon on screen but the audio file itself is not there anymore. If possible ALWAYS use import rather than copy and paste.
I'm not a techy so I don't know the differences between the functions in terms of the data SL uses, maybe others can shed more light on this matter.
Hmm, I haven't noticed any such problems. I haven't had any disappearing content or experienced any other unexpected behaviors. So, I guess I'm more concerned about the problems (if any) that I don't see. Can I be assured that problems won't be introduced when published to an LMS?
As far as I'm aware, copying and pasting only seems to affect images and audio files but it's pretty obvious when it happens. I haven't heard anyone reporting issues with content on the LMS that are related to copying and pasting slides.
As Harri mentioned, the copy/paste method is not one I'd recommend because of the issues with images or audio files. I've also seen triggers not carry over correctly, but again it's a noticeable change - so if you haven't seen anything off, you should be ok. Going forward you'll want to follow the import method described here, and it's also worth noting that you'll want to be sure you're working on local project files as described here.
