I am having a great deal of difficulty with my assessment questions. I am asking learners to type in a text entry and then click on a hotspot to move to the next slide and this is not working. I have it working on other slides, so I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I have attached a screenshot of my slide. Also, I have added a trigger so that the 'Try Again' layer shows when the learner clicks outside the text entry box and the hotspot. As soon as the learner clicks into the text entry box, the try again layer is shown. Please can anyone help me. Many thanks. Linda Welch

May not be the reason but I don't see a correct layer and the incorrect layer may not show because it is named incorrectly.
Oh! you are not using the freeform question, the problem is the trigger is set to AND, instead of OR
Hi Phil, I am not using the correct layer until the last slide in the question. I only use the question slide to enable the Try again and Incorrect layer. When you say it is not named correctly, is that because it is a copy? if I rename it as just incorrect, would it be ok? Many thanks.
Hi Linda see my second reply (I think it was marked as spam, I think it should work fine if you change the condition from AND to OR, I don’t think he layers work because you are not submitting the question
No sure you need the trigger to show the try again layer when the user clicks outside of the hotspot. But you could just add a trigger to hide the try again layer when the user clicks on the data entry field
Hi Phil,
I have all the questions like this and the layers work fine. Each question has several slides, and the learner has to complete all of the slides to complete the question. There are six questions! It is quite difficult. The project team are wanting me to increase the assessment to 10 questions! It is just this one where there are two fields that I want the learner to click onto. I will try it with an OR and see.
Have you any idea why the hotspot trigger isn't working? Again, this is working perfectly well on other slides! I must be doing something wrong, but I can't see what! many thanks for your help.
Hi Phil, If I don't use a question slide with the try attempts set, I don't think it would then fail and show the incorrect layer after 3 attempts. I don't know how to set that without a question slide. It is working ok on my other slides. Do you want me to send you the file? Would that help. many thanks. Linda
There is no way it will work with an AND as the answer can only be Trainer OR trainer at the moment the course is trying to validate something that can never be true, it would be better to remove the second condition and make the = not case sensitive
Well that's what I used to do with the old trigger settings, how do I do that with the new trigger format?
Bascially, the learner should be able to type it in either case. Many thanks
Hi Linda, looking at those settings I don't see any real way for the incorrect layer to show properly as you are not submitting the question anywhere. If the incorrect layer is showing it is more by luck than judgement (unless you have additional triggers on the try again layer to control this.
The 3 attempts should only work when you use a submit trigger which you dont appear to be using.
To use either case, use Or or remove one of the conditions and click on the equals and choose not case sensitive, if you can upload the slide I can show you how I would set it up to better leverage the built in quiz functions.
These are the the triggers that is not working
How would I upload to slide to you please
You can upload here or send to my email phil.mayorATme.com
just replace AT with @
I am not sure how to send you just the slide, shall I send the whole assessment?
Yes that would be fine just let me know the slide number
Ok, thats fine it is Scene number 5, Question 4, slide 5.2. Many thanks
Here is the file attached, this is how I would set it up, it only throws an error after the user types something. Burt this uses the power of the freeform question to do the work for you.
Hi Phil, This does seem to work ok. However, I don't really understand what it is doing, or how to set this up for other questions. What are the Text Entry interactions? Many thanks
Just another question, how do I enable a question to be retried if it has been failed? I have redirected the learners to a summary slide once they have completed all the slides. If they have failed, the question, it should show in red, but when I click on it to retry the question, it does not play. Is there a way that I can restart the question? Many thanks. Linda
YES, on the slide properties set the slide to reset to initial state
Ok, thats fine, thank you. Do you know of any quiz tutorials I could look at, I feel I haven't got a real grip of how question slides work and how to show the summary and results. Many thanks.
