Course Bookmarking?

Feb 08, 2021

I'm having a problem with a Storyline course I recently developed. The problem occurs when a user completes the quiz and exits the course from the results menu (without returning to the main menu) by just closing the browser window. If the re-open the course and click resume, it drops them right in the middle of the quiz. They are forced to re-complete the remainder of the quiz before they can access the main menu and review content.

I can't find any reason in the course settings it should be doing this. It's a pretty straightforward course with a quiz. Nothing fancy in the quiz settings. At least nothing I did intentionally!

Hi, Will,

I recall hearing years ago that some LMSs didn't recognize the completion info when a user exited from the Results slide. That may be the issue for you.

  • The simple fix was to have people advance to another slide before exiting. To help ensure that, I'd add a note to the Success layer of the Results slide that told the user to click Next to record their score and complete the course. That last slide was either a quick summary or just a "Congrats, you're done!" message.
  • Another option would be to have a trigger on the Success layer that automatically advances to another slide (which could also include a message about passing).

As for resuming within the quiz: that sounds like the suspend (resume) data is too long for the LMS. That can happen with long and/or complicated courses, though mostly it's only a problem with SCORM 1.2, because that has a low limit for suspend data.
