Course Completion Trigger

Jul 29, 2022

Hi there, I am adding course completion triggers to quiz layers.  When I use "Complete course as Completed/passed when the timeline starts on this layer" on the Success layer the file returns completed failed if the quiz is failed.  I don't understand why this is since the trigger is set to complete passed and only supposed to activate when the Passed layer is displayed.  I feel like I am missing something obvious.  My file is attached.

Ideally, I would like the success layer on the first results slide to report passed to the LMS and the failed layer  and success layer on the second results slide to report failed to the LMS.  I understand only one status can be reported to the LMS.  The logic being if someone passes that is reported.  If not the User has a second attempt at the quiz and if the status of the second attempt is passed to the LMS.

I am experimenting with this because our LMS is having trouble identifying second exam attempts.  Thanks for any input!

Hi, Molly.

Thank you for sharing the .story file!

I noticed your publishing options are set to track both the trigger (complete course) and the quizzes:

When you have multiple options (including different quizzes) selected under tracking, the first one completed is the one that gets reported to your LMS. In this case, the user either passes or fails the test, which will match the status on your LMS.

When you published the project, you set the reporting to Passed/Failed:

Depending on what you'd like to happen when the user fails the course, there might be a different reporting option you could try. If I understand what you're looking to accomplish, I believe Passed/Incomplete would be better for your scenario.

Let me know if that works!

Thank you!   That is amazing.  I could NOT sort that out for anything this afternoon.  Okay, back to the drawing board.  Funny you mention that- we have been publishing as passed/incomplete for like, 12 years.  Only recently are we running into issues with a new LMS that is causing us to question and re-visit everything.  This was so helpful.  Thanks again!
