Course freezing in LMS

May 23, 2016

Hi All

We have a course that is compulsory for all staff in our company (large company so have hundred per week doing this training) which until a few weeks ago was working perfectly.  I had to make some edits to one of the slides and now it's been redeployed on the LMS, it seems to be randomly having issues with the assessment.

I didn't touch the assessment at all when making edits.  I can't replicate this issue myself but have seen numerous screenshots from many different people and it's always the same issue.

What's happening is when people are completing the assessment, there is a smaller window with another assessment question popping up (but not loading properly) and you can't close it or move backwards or forwards etc.  It's not always the same question it's happening on and it doesn't happen to everyone (maybe 5-10% of users) but when it does happen I have to reset the training for them and then usually they manage to start again and complete it fine on the second attempt.  I have attached a photo showing the issue, hoping someone has ideas?

Thanks!

Hi, Siobhan -- Thanks for reaching out and so sorry to hear of your difficulties! May I ask if you are able to replicate this behavior when you test on the SCORM Cloud (the industry standard for LMS testing) or is this isolated only to your LMS?

And could you maybe share the name of the LMS provider you are using? Sometimes that is helpful in case others in the community utilize the same service and can speak on having had a similar experience.

Hi Christie - thanks for getting back to me!  I have tried it on the SCORM cloud but am unable to replicate, however, I'm unable to replicate in our own LMS either, I have accessed and completed the course multiple times and have never been able to trigger this issue yet have had screenshots from multiple people showing the same issue and it only started happening after I made some edits and reloaded the course to the LMS.  It's also not happening with any other course, just this one and many of our courses are Storyline courses.  We use Learning Seat LMS.

Hi, Siobhan -- Thanks so much for your reply and for the additional ideas. You may want to try importing your file into a new file to see if you find improvement, and also check out these troubleshooting steps to see if it helps.

Also, may I ask if you have reached out to your LMS directly to ask if they have received similar reports previously? That can be a really great way to hone in on where the disconnect is taking place, and how to address it.

Thanks Christie, I'll try republishing the file and see if that helps.

I haven't contacted our vendor yet as I have no doubt that their first response will be that it's an issue with the course or on our side somewhere as it's not happening with any other course and only started after I edited and reloaded the course.  Will contact them for feedback if republishing doesn't help.  Appreciate your assistance!

Unfortunately, my SCORM package is over 100mbs, which doesn't allow for "free" testing on Scorm Cloud. (There are quite a few videos embedded in the module...)

I'm wondering if it is worth paying for a course on Scorm Cloud and running the module through there. Does anyone recommend that method? (Am I understanding what Scorm Cloud does?)
