Course Freezing once Published

Jan 29, 2019

Hello! We are experiencing trouble with a Storyline (360) course published to Cornerstone. (It runs fine in Review.)

Some users play it start to finish no problem, some can't get it to load from the start, others can load it but find it freezing (different people freeze at different points), and yet some get to the end and can't exit ("Exit" button is triggered to exit course, but, for some, it's not responding and the course remains in their To Do List.  Others exit with no issue.)

I've been able to work through the Troubleshooting list found in the community, and a few relevant discussion threads, but have had not come to a suggestion that has changed the inconsistencies in how this course plays.

I understand this is a repeat in topic - but feel like it's important to echo how CSOD plays 'not-nicely' with us. And, further, hoping for any suggestions on anything that I might be missing in terms of setting up the course, publish options, user settings, etc. Is there any way to pinpoint whether this is a problem with my course vs my LMS? My laptop settings; or the user's? Are there any external programs that are known to interfere with playability? Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Hi Andria!

You asked a really important question: Is there any way to pinpoint whether this is a problem with my course vs my LMS?

Yes, there is! Testing in SCORM Cloud helps us determine whether the issue is related to Storyline or to your LMS. SCORM Cloud is an industry-standard LMS testing tool, it's easy to use, and it's free!

I'd be happy to help you with that testing, if you'd like. You can send your unpublished project to me privately by uploading it here, and I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.

Hi Rachel,

I don't feel overly-confident about having had a resolve on this. SCORM Cloud didn't return that there was anything wrong with the course. I believe it was something within CSOD.

On some investigation I changed a few small things.  For instance turning off "Launch player in a new window."  (There was a funny suspicious extra pop up window with an orange "launch" button appearing upon launch, and this went away when I changed this setting.) After this, most people were able to run the course as normal, but there were still 2 or 3 users that experienced problems.

So, sadly, I don't have a definitive reason for why things went wrong, so I can't say with certainty how to fix it, because it was never completely "fixed".  Sorry this isn't so helpful! I'm open to any other suggestions on what could have gone wrong, if you have any :)
