Course ID resetting to "1"

Oct 29, 2019

I created a quiz in storyline 360 which I uploaded into my LMS. I was asked to duplicate the file and remove the timer. I saved as to create the new file. I then updated the LMS Course Title, LMS Identifier, LMS Lesson Scorm Information Title and Identifiers to be a unique name. When I try to upload this new file into the LMS, it gives me an error message that my Course ID "1" could not be created. It seems when I upload into the LMS my Course ID is resetting. Am I missing a setting in Storyline that is causing this to happen? Please see screen shot attached. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Jennifer!

Sorry, you're running into this! I would recommend that you first upload the course to SCORM cloud to see if it's an issue with the course or LMS. If you're still seeing the issue when uploading to SCORM cloud, I'm happy to take a look at the file and see what could be causing this error.

Here is a detailed article on troubleshooting your LMS with SCORM cloud.

I am not trying to overwrite. We have a quiz with a timer and got a request for a resource that includes the same quiz, but minus the timer. I did a save as ... but I get an error in the LMS saying that the Course ID of 1 already exist. BUT my course ID a unique ID I am setting in Storyline so I am not understanding why this is happening. And yet another Follow up. According to the LMS company, When storyline is exporting its content, in the metadata.xml file, it is setting the following info. That entry of 1 is what is causing the course identifier to change to a course ID of 1.

-<identifier>
<catalog>Catalog</catalog>
<entry>1</entry>
</identifier>

Any ideas how to adjust this in our settings before publishing?

Hi there, Jennifer!

Thanks for keeping us in the loop, and smart move to also open a case! I'm sharing our team's reply publicly so we can share more insight with others who find this conversation!

Although there isn't an option in Storyline that will let you set up metadata.xml, particularly change the <entry> value, you can edit the .XML file in the output version manually. Or, you may try the following:

1) Navigate to your Articulate 360 installation folder. The default is
C:\Program Files (x86)\Articulate\360\Storyline

2) Search for the XML file using the search option (Ctrl+F).

3) Edit the instances in Notepad and update the values you need to update.

4) Do a test publish.

If there's anything else we can answer, please let us know!
