Course Navigation Help

Aug 11, 2014

Hello

I have a couple of issues with the navigation in a project.

First, when I click the back button the audio does not start again. I thought that just leaving the slide properties on automatically decide would restart the slide audio on revisits and reset to initial state was more for slide interactivity. I changed all the slide properties to reset to initial state when revisiting but it has not solved my issue.

My other issue is that my client wants the Next button to appear on the slide a couple of seconds from the end but on revisiting the slide the Next button should appear from the start of the slide. I tried to create a duplicate layer for each slide that is the revisited state of the slide but it did not work properly.

Any advice on how I might solve these issues would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Emily

Hi Emily,

Setting the slide to reset should have worked for the audio... Could you attach (or link to) your .story file? That will help us trouble shoot it.

Your second issue isn't going to mix well with the first. There is a good chance the logic for displaying the next button will be reset along with the slide. Are the learner's free to revisit the slide anytime or only after completing the whole course (or section of the course)?

Hi James,

Thanks for your help. The students are able to revisit the content slides anytime during the course. Here is a link to the project

I have set all the slides to reset to initial state and have not done anything about the NEXT button. I deleted the layers since they were not working anyway. I just thought someone may have an idea about the logic of the task especially with the issue I was having with the audio.

I watched this tutorial: http://community.articulate.com/tutorials/products/controlling-a-slide-s-advance-behavior-and-other-slide-properties.aspx

It lead me to believe that the audio would restart on the slide if I left the slide properties to decide automatically.

Hi All

I just wanted to give the resolution to my issue to help others: It is very simple but as a new user it took me a bit to get the right combination of variables and triggers.

HOW TO SET AN OBJECT TO APPEAR AT A DIFFERENT TIME IN THE TIMELINE ON THE SECOND TIME YOU VISIT THE SLIDE

First I was getting very hung up on the request which was to have the NEXT button appear two seconds from the end of the slide on the first view and then appear from the start on the second view. The competing issue was that I had to have the slide properties set to reset to its initial state when users return to it to start the slide audio. The solution is to have the object appear at the end and then the rest fell into place.

1) Create a T/F variable for the SLIDE with initial value FALSE

2) Create button or object with initial state of hidden

3) Create a Trigger to adjust the slide variable to true at the end of the timeline

4) Create a variable to change the state of the button or object to Normal at the end of the media on the slide

5) Create a variable to change the state of the button or object to Normal at the beginning of the timeline IF the slide variable is True

I am sure there are probably a few other ways I could have approached this issue. I was thinking of using layers but this was what I ended up going with and it worked.

Hope it helps

Emily
