Course not scoring

Jun 06, 2014

I'm trying to help someone with an Articulate Course that they designed.  The course works great the first time someone takes it provided that they pass it.   The course seems to be set to pass/incomplete though as "failed" attempts don't report a score.    The head scratcher is that after a student takes the course once (passed or failed or incomplete).... the course will no longer report a score.

Any ideas?

Hi Chris,

Is the score not updating or is it suddenly missing? Are you testing this in their LMS? You may also want to review this article on troubleshooting common LMS issues, specifically testing it at SCORM Cloud which is an industry standard for testing SCORM Content to see how it behaves there. If you're able to replicate the behavior there, we'll want to take a look at the .story file and all the publish settings.

Thanks Ashley.  I had tried the SCORM T, but failed courses were coming up as incomplete.   Passed courses worked the first time, but would come back as "incomplete" if the course was failed or if a user tries to take the course twice.  We changed the course from pass/incomplete to pass/fail AND from SCORM 1.2 to SCORM 2004.   This seems to have fixed the issue and the course works well now.  The only downside is that courses have to score each time a student starts the course.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the update and additional information - I'm glad you found a solution that'll work for you. You also mentioned the course has to score each time the student starts - is this the behavior you'd like? Are you not allowing users to resume? A lot of LMS's force a course to be in review mode once you've met the completion requirement so that the user can't change their score by mistake, but you can modify that behavior.
