I'm sorry to hear about the issue you've run into. Are you publishing and working on your files locally as described here. You'll also want to make sure you're on the latest update of Storyline 1, Update 9. Also when testing the published content you'll want to make sure that you're viewing in the intended environment as described here.

Thank you so much for your response! I figured it out eventually - my own stupidity, I had added new layers with the wrong layout (needed to be a blank layout) so the layers made it appear as though the content was not there.
