Course page will not work in HTML5 output
May 31, 2017
Hi there,
I am having some problems with a course I am developing.
Basically it will not load in HTML5 output at all, either locally on a machine, web server or LMS. I managed to work out the specific page that is stopping it load, with that page removed it works fine. However I need the content of that page in the course, and can't work out which part of the page content is causing it not to work in HTML5, have even created new pages, and manually keyed in the content, and still doesn't want to work.
When viewing the normal story.html file it works.

The page and content in question is 1.3
See attached for the file (storyline 2)
Any assistance, much appreciated

I've been having similar problem with the html5 output showing odd behaviour. I think the output might be buggy somehow.
Also your story.html is just constantly trying to load the story_html5.html file, I've been having this issue too with the story.html constantly redirecting. If anyone knows how to get around that I would be very interested.
Hi Bruce
if you are using Chrome, Google have disabled flash (you can enable it) but that is why your output is redirecting to html5 version.
Hi Bruce,
Yes I have noticed html5 output does behave oddly compared to how it behaves in flash, or in articulate direct. But i've never had it not even load the output. And is not even as if there is a lot going on page 1.3 in my course, and the content is just text.
Thanks Wendy, that makes sense.
Tom, yeah, the problem I'm having is a random page that stops navigation after 5 things are clicked, the head scratcher is there are pages previous and after that have you click just as many or more things and they work fine. It's just one page doing it!?
Yours isn't loading at all for me, well it loads your frame but not your content, even on 1.1, it just spins forever on chrome and ie.
Bruce,
That sounds strange.
Yes, it just won't load when as HTML5, but loads fine when using flash, but for the life of me can't see why page 1.3 is stopping it.
Me neither, the advice I was given was contact support, I guess I'll offer you the same lol

Thanks Bruce.
I will contact support, and see what they say

Hi there Alyssa,
I have not received anything through as of yet from support@articulate.com at my email.
Tom
Hi all,
Just to let you know, I have now resolved this issue with the help of Articulate Support.
The crux of it was - Odd text characters in layer 2,3 and 4 in slide 1.3 (copied in my PowerPoint. The problematic characters are not visible within Storyline. I had to copy the problematic text into Notepad to be able to see them, then delete them and then copy the fixed text back into Storyline. Once this was done the HTML5 published output would then load in normal time and function as intended.
Thanks for the update here and those details, Tom! I'm glad you're good to go now ☺️
Hi, Tom. I have the same issue as yours. In your original message you say - " I managed to work out the specific page that is stopping it load, with that page, removed it works fine." How were you able to find specific slide which prevents the course from loading? I have quite a big course and to look into specific slide will help a lot!
Also, what were the "odd characters"? Maybe I have the same problem.
Thanks a lot for the answer!
Hi Roman
I found the slide, but I had to keep removing slides/scenes from my eLearning course, and then republishing until I was able to identify it. I did it a scene at a time. So not the quickest of ways.
The odd characters that only showed when copied into note pad were - . Although implementation issues frequently reduce or eliminate the achievement of the intended benefits, research suggests that the benefits described in the business case were often never achievable in the first place. These benefits were often either exaggerated, to obtain funding, or there was insufficient understanding of the business changes needed to achieve the benefits.”

That’s all very good for the project delivery stage, but you’ve got to get the right project in the first place. It is about being effective with the right project – that’s absolutely vital.” I
Big thanks for your answer, Tom!
