Course published for CD, but resources not available?

Aug 19, 2015

Hi all, I've just come across a massive stumbling block when publishing my course to DVD (CD) and wondered if there is any solution known?

Details:

I've just published 50+ courses to CD - to mail out to clients, but when doing a final trial before I mail the disks out, none of the resources (from the Resources tab) are available - the message I receive is "cannot find *****, make sure path is correct". The resources are either Word docs or PDF's.

In the past I have loaded these same courses onto a LMS without a problem and have packaged them as web files (viewed offline) and then placed on a USB - I haven't encountered any problems accessing the same resources with either method.

Has anyone encountered anything like this before? Is there a way that I can get away from having to re-publish all 50+ courses to web (viewing offline) - it's taken almost 2 days to publish to CD!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers.

Ok, so here's the strange thing... in the story content>external files folder, some of the files are there and some are missing!

It looks as if I'll have to go through each individual lesson and check to see that each lesson has the files needed. Problem semi-solved, but the reason it happened is still a mystery!

Hi Ashley,

No, there doesn't seem to be a pattern to the external files not being included in with the lessons. For example Lessons 1, 2, 5 and 7 have the attachments missing but lessons 3, 4, 6 and 8 have the attachments included. I'm publishing to an external HDD (USB) as my C: is a bit full.

Just strange that some worked and others didn't. They were completed in a sequential run (1-8), so you'd think that if it worked for one, it'd work for the rest??

To solve the issue, we've just been going through. checking if files are missing and then copying the missing files into the external files folder.

Hi David,

Publishing to another location than your local hard drive can cause odd or unusual behavior and elements of corruption - so that may be the case here. You'll always want to work on project files locally, link to local files such as the PDFs, and then publish locally. If you need to place within a server, external drive or network drive after the fact - that's ok, just make sure to save first, close out the Storyline program and then copy it to the other location.
