Course published to html5 but playing in Flash player

Dec 21, 2016

Hi There

I have published various courses in html5 but when i right click the course it appears to be playing in Flash.

It still plays on Apple devices which suggests that it is not Flash Based.  I am using Chrome Version 55.0.2883.87.

I have a client who is concerned that we are using Flash and i need to explain why this is the case when in fact the course is html5. Can you please assist with an explanation?

Hi Tess

Thanks for posting your question! When you publish your Storyline 2 course and select the HTML5 option what happens is it publishes to BOTH Flash and HTML5. If you open up the output folder and look at its contents, you'll notice a Flash version of the course and a story_html5.html version as well. When you upload this folder, with both a Flash and HTML5 vesion, what happens is that if  a learner views your course on a device that support Flash (such as a desktop web browser), they'll see the default Flash version of your course. On the other hand, with the HTML5 option selected at publish, if learners view the course on a mobile device that doesn't support Flash, they will automatically be redirected to the HTML5 version.

Here's more information about publishing with Storyline 2: https://community.articulate.com/series/articulate-storyline-2/articles/publishing-a-course-for-mobile-devices

If you want your client to view only the HTML5 version, send them the direct link to the story_html5.html version and it should launch it in the HTML5 version in their browser.

Hope this helps! :)
