Course showing Failed in LMS

Mar 25, 2014

Hello,

I have a course that is published to report to the LMS as complete/incomplete. The results are tracked based on the results screen for a question within the course. The course is tracking as complete, but it says "Failed" next to the date completed. I'm not sure what could cause this problem and the support team for the LMS says it's something within the course design. Please help!

Thank you

Hi Sarah,

When you say tracking as complete, do you mean the 100% score? Also, what update of Storyline are you using? We're currently on update 5

I'd like to know a bit more about if this happens on the first attempt within a course or if you've tried to resume the course and seen this behavior. Also there is a great article here on troubleshooting common LMS tracking and reporting issues.

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for the response. I'm using the latest update. The course itself is just a wrapper that links them to questions in an outside web based tool. When they return to the Storyline course they're asked to answer whether or not they completed the questions at the linked website. The course should report as complete if they answer "Yes" to the question. So yes, if they score 100% the course should show complete. If they answer "No" they're branched back to the first screen until they answer "Yes".

Hi Sarah,

So how are you tracking the course's completion? By visiting that particular slide or using that as a question slide that reports to a results slide?   Is it possible your LMS is able to track a completion and success status?  To report both statuses, choose either Passed/Incomplete or Passed/Failed when publishing Storyline content. Completed/Incomplete and Completed/Failed report only the completion status.

Here's what the LMS support representative told me...

Somehow your "cmi.success_status" is gettingset to failed as part of the course scoring. You may need to consult the maker of your authoring to tool to determinewhy this would be the case if you are no explicitly setting the variable incode within the course.

Any idea how I can fix this?
