courses for desktop/laptop and mobile device users

Jun 11, 2013

Hello

I'm new to Storyline. I would like to create password protected courses on my site which will be available for desktop/laptop and mobile device users. Is HTML 5 the best output and could I reach all the users with my training? I don't know what to expect and what might not work. Please help and clarify it for me in a simple way. Thank you.

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes, Dagmara!

I wouldn't really say there's a "best" output type for courses, especially for mobile devices. It really depends on what type of content you have in your course, what type of features you want to include, etc.

A great resource for planning your courses is the following chart:

Comparing Storyline's Flash, HTML and Articulate Mobile player output\

Now, for the password protected content, you may run into some issues. Again, though, it depends on how you want to set this up. Do you plan on having a password prompt inside the course, or does the server you plan to use require authentication?

Thanks and welcome again!

Thank you for your help Christine My users will pay for accessing the content using Pay Pal and after that will be able to see the full content. The short demo will be available free. Would I have any issues with that? As for the content I am just learning all the terminology and what can I do with Storyline. I guess all the users can access my training from the same video? I would like to have a variety of content - animation, quizzes, drag and drop options. I can't test my content on all the devices so need to make sure it will work fine. Any problems after people make a payment would affect my business and what people think of it. Thank you again for your help. It's so much to learn if you are new to e-learning.

Hi Dagmara,

I'm afraid I don't have much.. ok, any.. experience will selling courses. So, I can't really give advice on that, or how to get that set up. I know there are a lot of community members here that do this, however, so if you ever want to get some feedback from them, you might want to ask over in the Building Better Courses section of the forums. We have a truly wonderful and talented community that's always happy to help. So, if you run into issues with selling your courses, or setting them up for this, that would be where I'd start.

One thing I did want to mention is that you won't be able to provide 100% satisfaction for your clients 100% of the time. While I understand that you want to make sure that your courses are fantastic and that your customers will be pleased, you'll never be able to please everyone or guarantee that your products will work on every single device that's created. Technology is always moving forward, there's always going to be new machines and there's just no way to say "it'll work on everything". So, it might be best to specify where your courses will work best, so that customers are aware from the start that if they try using it else where they could run into some issues. Always a good idea to cover yourself and your business :)

I'm afraid I'm not even sure what the "Wishlist" plugin is - I'm guessing that's an addon or an option through PayPal or some other site? Afraid I'm not clear on that or how you're wanting to distribute courses through a video. The only way I could see doing that is hyperlinking to them in the video - but that all depends on what type of video it is, etc.

Thanks!
