Create Random Math Problems based on Random Numbers

Mar 29, 2013

sorry, i did a search and didn't find exactly what i was looking for..

i would like to try and develop math quizzes (financial math, Options specifically ) with the inputs that change randomly and the answer automatically calculated with additional "incorrect answers also calculated automatically..

ei:

Find the Average of these 3 number?   5 10 15

So in Excel I can create a button the generates 3 random numbers in 3 different cells.

a1=Random(5,100)

b2=Random(5,100)

c2=Random(5,100)

I can also create the answer since the formula is constant (a1+b2+b3)/3

then i can also create additional random answers.... RtAnswer * (random(.5,2)  for example

So i can literally have infinite questions that are generated with minimal setup then just decide to randomly place these types of questions in my quizzes....Is this currently possible??

please send any links showing how to accomplish this...  thank you!!

Hi Jon - I know you posted this a year and a half ago, but I think I have a solution for you, I do a mail merge from randomized excel data, which I wrote about here:http://www.teachscience.net/2011/02/16/diy-personalized-randomized-assignments/

Now I'm looking for ways of doing something similar online so students don't need to wait for me to get feedback. There is an editor for randomized questions built into Blackboard, but it's kind of ugly, awkward, and time consuming.
