Creating a menu in Storyline 3 using buttons, states and variables - help please!

Mar 06, 2018

I love this community and I have reached out for support before... here we go again!

I am creating a module with 6 sections, and at the front there is a menu slide with a button to take the learner to the different sections.  Then at the end of the section there is a 'return to menu' button which takes the learner back to the first slide.

I read an article on here about creating a 'Completed' state for the menu buttons on the first slide, then creating a variable which became 'true' when the return to menu button was selected at the end of a section.

As a result I have successfully been able to display a green tick next to a completed section.  I previewed the whole module however and when I complete the fourth section and go back to the menu, the green ticks have disappeared from the first three menu buttons!

All the triggers are identical on all the end of section slides, and all the menu buttons have the same triggers too.  The state of the menu buttons is set to completed when the timeline starts on that slide if the 'section complete' variable I have created is true, am I missing something?

Hi Susi

Thank you for your quick reply, the conditions were all ok which is why I was confused.   I clicked the settings cog on the menu slide and changed the properties for the slide state - it was set to 'automatically decide' and I changed it to 'resume saved state'.  This seems to have fixed the issue, so thank you - it does seem to have been resetting the variables in the background!
