Creating a randomized quiz...is it possible??

Jul 19, 2018

Hi all...new to the forum.  Wanted to see if I could leverage Articulate 360 to handle the following...

We do a pre-test to prepare students for a certification exam.  The quiz generates 100 random questions from 7 different question banks.  (for example...pick 7 questions from bank 1, 27 questions from bank 2, etc.)  On top of that, the quiz is timed at 3 hours.

Is there a way to do this in Articulate to where they can take the quiz, be able to review their answers and jump through to the different questions, and only receive the result when they submit?  If not, I'll look for another route.

Thanks!

Hi there Gerard! Thanks for checking out Storyline 360! Let me walk you through a few features that will be helpful for your project.

First, take a look at the Question Bank feature. With this feature, you can shuffle questions so learners don’t always see questions in the same order. Also, each question draw can display an entire question bank or, if you’d prefer, just a random subset of questions from the bank.

Since your exam is timed at 3 hours, you'll want to use the Quiz Timer feature. You can enable that timer in the Results Slide.

Finally, since you want learners to have the freedom to move forwards and backwards throughout the questions, use the Submit All At Once feature. This means that all the questions will be submitted at the same time at the end of the quiz.

I hope that helps, and let me know if you think of anything else you need!

One quick thing....is there a way to randomize the quiz to where the questions from each bucket aren't in order?  For example...I'm using 5 different question banks to make up this 100 question test.  I'm picking 40 from the first, 20 from the second bank, etc.  Is there a way that once the 100 questions are drawn that they can be mixed...so all the questions by category aren't in order?

Hi Gerard!  There isn't a way to pull questions from several banks in the same draw slide, but you could have several draws where a smaller set of questions are pulled that are randomized.  If you go this route, you may also want to consider having more than one question bank per category to reduce the risk of drawing the same question twice.

Does that make sense?
