Creating a searchable database

Sep 12, 2014

I had created a series of training modules last year that were published to CD. The modules include, videos, downloadable documents, etc. The client now requires these to be published to the web with the requirement that users should have an option to be able to search out specific data within the modules. How would this be achievable in Storyline? The Menu and Glossary do not serve my purpose. Could you let me know how I can insert a search bar even if it's through coding. Furthermore, how would I tag a chunk of data or specific slides with searchable words in order that they turn up as results to a user's search query. A reply is needed urgently. Thanks so much!

Hello M, and welcome to Heroes!

If the items that you want your users to be able to access are found in documents or on the web, one thing you can use the Resources tab in the player settings.

You can get some more information here on setting up the Resource tab, and here is how to Link to a Resource in the Course Player

You can also add the Search feature within the Player options. It is found under the "features tab" you will have to have a Menu appear in the player in order for this to work, but it will search the content and notes of the whole course.

Let us know if this helps.

This is a very interesting question. I see Emily's solution above but I'm not sure if that addresses the user's OP. How would this solution work if there are multiple instances of the same query? What does the search feature look like in practice? Can search results be styled of linkable, etc.

Is there any video of the Search Function actually working?

Has anyone managed to get a searchable database working,  even with <shudder> coding?
