Creating a tag cloud

Apr 22, 2013

So I had an idea.

I'm asking people to think about a question and set out an answer. It could be "In one word, what do you think of it so far?". It's not that, it's about safeguarding vulnerable adults, but you get the picture.

I'd like people to see what other people thought and to present this as a tag cloud. I've found some (free!) software to do it (tagul.com), and will link out of the course to a webpage to show it. What I need is a method to take a text entry and post this somewhere that I can then analyse with the tagul tool. This could be a web address or feed or something like that.

I did have a peep at the javascript stuff for sending emails, but would like to be able to have a text entry, then a button that has a trigger to send the word or phrase to an external site and launch the html window that will then display the tag cloud (like this:  http://tagul.com/preview?id=148126@1&name=Cloud%201

If it works it will look pretty good and would be a great feedback tool for courses too.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Hi John. Welcome to the community!

I'm afraid I won't be able to give you any advice on using the text field or JavaScript, but I did want to share another option with you. You could pull in a web object of a form, a blog, or even a social page where the users could insert their responses. That way it would be in the course (the users wouldn't have to open a new window at all), and the users could easily share their responses with others outside of the course.

I'm not sure if something like this would work for you. Just a thought! :)

Good luck on the project!

Christine
