Creating a Web Oject link from a Storyline 3 slide to Survey Monkey

I have added a Web Object to a slide which links to a Survey Monkey survey.
When editing the survey I chose a 5-star rating option for one question. Initially I chose stars as the feedback graphic and then changed to smiley faces as part of my testing (see attached graphic). While editing in Survey Monkey, the stars and smiley faces displayed correctly on-screen.

Unfortunately, when the module is published, the slide displays the smiley faces as random characters (see second attached graphic).

I am having the same problem whether I use Internet Explorer or Chrome to edit Survey Monkey.

I would be grateful to anyone who might resolve why I am seeing odd characters inside the Storyline web object instead of stars or smiley faces.
