Creating a Word Jumble

Jun 02, 2014

I'm trying to create a Word Jumble using the drag/drop function in Storyline and have hit a bit of a snag.  Everything would function correctly as long as there are no repeating characters.  However, in my case I have jumbled the word BOSTON and the "O" letters could be placed in either the 2nd or 5th spots.  Any suggestions on how I can make this work?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Rebecca,

This thread has been so helpful, but I'm hoping you can help me create an interaction where this works on three levels rather than two. I'm trying to create an activity where learners organize objects (applications) into categories. The correct answer for this activity is:

U.S. Call Center Management (APO Category)

               Midwest Region (APO Category)

                              CALLS System Chicago (Application)

               Southern Region (APO Category)

                              CALLS System Atlanta (Application)

However, if I switch the applications (for example, put CALLS System Chicago under the Southern Region category) the answer is still considered correct by Storyline. Is there a workaround for this? My file is attached.

Hi Tina!

Glad that you found Rebecca's video helpful. Unfortunately, she does not make it back to the forums often.

Did you check out the sample story that she shared as well? I'm reattaching here if needed. Perhaps seeing her setup will assist you.

If you need us to take a look, you can share your sample .story file here if you'd like. I'm sure someone could assist.

Hi Samantha!

Thanks for sharing your file and allowing us to take a look.

You were so close :) Looks like you just needed to define your drop object in your trigger (you had the slide listed) and everything else looks great.

I duplicated your slide and made changes on the 2nd slide so you could see the difference.

Your file is attached.

Hi there and thanks for this fix.

Despite having added the Drop Incorrect state to objects and despite then editing the state of the Incorrect button as being select if objects are normal or objects are incorrect - I am getting a message saying "Invalid Answer - must complete the question before submitting". What could I be missing?

Thanks again!

Hi

I am at a loss. How do I control the behaviour of incorrect choices (e.g. whether they stay where they're put or whether they bounce back to their original position) using this pick one/drag and drop method? The question editor (where i could make alterations) in the drag and drop question type does not appear in the pick one question type. Thanks.

Hi AH,

Once you set up a freeform question type (such as a pick one) you should get the question editor that would allow you to choose which are the questions and answers. The drag and drop and the pick one are different freeform types and can't be combined though. If you're needing help with the specific set up of your incorrect items in a drag and drop can you share a copy of your .story file here with us? That's the best way to for community members and staff to offer advice, ideas and possible solutions associated with your project as we'll be able to see what you're working it! You can use the "Add Attachment" button at the bottom of the reply window to share here.
