Cropping Issues

May 31, 2022

With the latest update, the crop feature on pictures does about anything but crop the picture. Maybe 1/10 times it'll actually crop the picture. Though the other 9/10 times it might expand the width of the picture by some random amount, it might mirror the picture, it might size the picture down to 1 x 1 px - and with each glitch/error it won't allow me to "undo". I know cropping has had it's on and off moments over the past year at least, but this is consistently happening across files new and old since the last update, whereas before it might happen once in a blue moon and be fixed by restarting Storyline.

Any idea if there's a fix? I've tried all the standard troubleshooting techniques like restarting Storyline, restarting my computer, reinstalling Storyline, doing a clean install of Storyline, etc.

YES! I came to the discussions to see if anyone else was having this issue. It is infuriating to say the least. The image MOVES within the cropping handles instead of allowing me to crop the actual image.

*Edit to add: I tried rolling back to a version from 2021 and whatever is wrong with the crop tool is still an issue although the issue itself is a new one for me. (I am sure I was cropping things in 2021 and would have absolutely noticed this problem lol!)

I do have a support ticket as well and have since discovered that crop works when I insert a photo but the issue I have is trying to crop a copy of the "clipart/background" that I pasted from the slide master. What I had done was select and copy from the slide master the background image and then closed out of the master and did a ctrl+shift+D to paste it in the exact spot and then I wanted to crop out the border so that all I was left with was the "paper and lines" part of the image. This should have left the image in the exact spot I pasted it but instead it does what I showed in the screencast.

Hi Popeyes Training!

Sorry to hear you've also run into setbacks while cropping images in Storyline!

Testing the behavior on my end (64-bit Storyline 360 version 3.85.31840.0 via Windows Parallels on a Mac M1) I was unable to reproduce the same issue. Here's a quick screen recording showing my results!

It would be helpful to see a screen recording of the issue as you are experiencing it on your end. Would you be comfortable sharing one here in the discussion or privately through a support case?

We'll delete it from our system as soon as troubleshooting is complete!
