Custom button on feedback layer is not showing

May 02, 2019

Hello everyone.

Just ran into something in Storyline which I was not able to resolve...

I attached a test file to show the problem.

In short: View -> Feedback master -> I placed a button with a trigger on the 'Incorrect feedback' slide.

But the extra added button does not show up when I preview and choose a wrong answer.

What am I overlooking?

Thanks for your response in advance.

Hi Marcel,

I'm not sure how you created your extra button on the Feedback Master, but in the attached update, I have deleted the button and recreated it by using Insert -> Button and then copied the formatting of the other button to make them look the same and everything now appears to be working OK.

Hi Ned. First of all, thank you for your support regarding this issue. Great!

Initially, I downloaded your file and still did not get the result I was hoping for...

What I wanted to achieve was the following: whenever you select a wrong answer, the 'Incorrect feedback slide' should pop-up, with an extra button called 'Lightbox'.
To this button, I added a trigger which should open the slide named 'Lightbox' in another scene.
This did not happen.
Another thing I noticed was that the text 'Lightbox' did not appear in my created button on the
'Incorrect feedback slide' while reviewing. By the way, I changed the text in the 'Feedback Master View', not on the layers of the question slide because I have to apply this 'technique' to another project with many questions, and I wanted to make sure I could change the contents of an 'Incorrect feedback slide' centrally, triggers including.

Remembering your remark that you inserted a regular button from the menu, I did the same in the 'Incorrect feedback slide' via the 'Feedback Master View'. I added the same trigger (for the 'Lightbox' slide to appear) and...it worked. Even the text in the button appeared correctly.

The way I previously created that extra button was by copying the NEXT button, and changing the trigger and button text. Perhaps that created a situation for Storyline which caused erratic behaviour? A corrupted file? Who nows.

At least I got it to work in the test file I previously attached. Now I have to apply it to a project and see if it truly works out.
I'll let you know!

Thanks again for responding!

Regards,

Marcel

Hi Ned.

Just added a button on the 'Incorrect feedback slide' via the 'Feedback Master View' in a production file, and it worked throughout the entire file :)

So, my learned lesson was/is: do not just copy buttons on the 'Incorrect feedback slide' via the 'Feedback Master View', it might cause erratic behavior.
At least, that is the only conclusion I can draw.

Hi Marcel,

I had noticed a couple of other issues in your original file, but concentrated my answer on the query that you raised. If you still need any help getting the Feedback Master sorted, I am happy to provide an update to my earlier file that will do everything you have listed above (i.e. linking to Lightbox slide via second button).

Happy to provide any assistance I can.
