Custom Hotspot Interaction with hotspot marker

I'm building my own hotspot interaction as I don't want to use the submit button that is used by default in the pre-built interaction. Is there a way to use the hotspot marker (like the spinning wheel used in the hotspot interaction) so that the screen will show where the user clicked w/o using that interaction?

We are using this for software training, and the in the interaction, the user has to pick where on the screen certain information is located. So they can choose absolutely anywhere on the screen, so I need one hotspot for that wrong area, and one for the correct answer. But I need to show them where they've clicked exactly, hence the need for the marker.
