Custom Interaction Help / Ideas
Dec 23, 2013
The current course I'm building includes an interaction that is supposed to work in this manner (instructions straight from the script):
...place your cursor on the green icon of the employee. When the timer starts, move the green employee to the exit door as quickly as possible, trying not to touch the maze walls.
When the learner succeeds in doing this, they are, then, instructed to do it with the opposite hand. The point being that you're able to do things faster with your dominant hand as opposed to your non-dominant hand.
In Flash, creating this is a no-brainer. In fact, I thought about creating it in Flash and importing it into Storyline...but that defeats the purpose in using Storyline as the SWF won't be visible on an iPad.
Is it possible to create an interaction like this in Storyline? If not, does anybody have any alternative ideas?
I really appreciate your help!

Hi Ryan,
I haven't seen an example like you're describing, but there are some great "game" styled courses in this thread, and specifically the first one from Phil is a maze interaction that you may be able to get some ideas from.
You may also want to look in the Building Better Courses forum as folks often share examples there.
Good luck with your project!
Ashley -- you rule! The Gunslinger concept can be used to achieve a similar effect. I really appreciate the help!
you could use the drag over trigger to create a maze, if the go outside the space show a layer
It's Phil who rules, he's the one who made the examples, and shared an additional idea.
Glad I could point you in the right direction!
Hi, Ryan: A drag-n-drop might achieve a similar effect. I mocked up a truly basic one where a learner is dragging a hockey puck around a barrier. They are able to go through the barrier of course, but if the goal is to get the learner experimenting with the mouse in different hands, it might do the trick. Might go you thinking about different ways to go about it. Happy Holidays. --Daniel
I had to give this a go; it sounded like a fun challenge. I created a possible interaction; haven't tested it thoroughly but it seems to work.
Includes a timer and an "Oops!" feedback layer if you bump into the walls.
Excelent David, also you can do it without te submit botton (the interaction is submit when the box is drop on correctly
Great improvement Carlos! I love the immediate feedback.
All of these are great ideas! Thanks for posting...never would have thought about using the drag and drop interaction.
Nice updates Carlos!
