Custom line spacing not holding on Master Slide items
Oct 28, 2014
This looks like a bug to me. If I try to set up custom line spacing on a placeholder text box on a master slide the changes aren't remembered and don't appear in slides that have that master slide applied.
For example, I set up a master slide placeholder text box using 14 pt text and with the line spacing to equal "Exactly" 22 pts. When I click out of the text box on the master page it resets itself to "single." I am unable to fix the line spacing to anything other than "single."
Has anyone else seen this behavior?
(BTW, I'm trying to insert screen shots here but this image uploader isn't working...)

Hi Ron, sorry you're running into this!
Could you take a look at this quick screen recording of my testing? Are you following the same steps in your own testing as I did in that video?
For me when I click back the number changes from 14 to 19.91.
The after number changes whether I use single or multiple.
Thanks, Ron. What version of Storyline are you using? You can find this detail by going to the Help tab, then About Storyline.
Also, try opening a new Storyline file with no content. Then, repeat the same testing steps. Do you still run into the error?
On further study, I found I was not exactly correct about the text objects simply being in the slide master. The text was specifically a placeholder. I found the same behavior when cutting the text placeholder from the master to any slide. It appears to be specific to those types of objects regardless of where that are located.
My version of Storyline is 3.25.18088.0.
Hi Ron,
Thanks for the additional details. We do have a similar issue reported, so I have one additional question. Does your story size have a width larger than 720?
If so, I can get this conversation added to our report.
Yes, the content is 1024 x 720, not counting the player.
Ah, that's the culprit! The issue Leslie mentioned happens when the slide is wider than 720 pixels.
So sorry this bug is affecting your project. If we get an update, we'll pass the information along to you!
Unbelievable... After 4 years this issue still persists. Is anything being done? This is ridiculous.
I adjust the MAster Slide line spacing to Exactly 18pt, click OK and check again to see it's 34.15pt?? PLEASE FIX THIS. How can this STILL not be fixed after 4 YEARS...
Hi there, Kristin. I hear your frustration. I've updated the impact on the report we have for this bug in Storyline 360. We will share an update here once we have new information.
Commenting so I'm on thread to follow updates. I'm experiencing same issue in SL360 latest update v3.28.18944.0. This is a pretty big issue - shocked it's still not fixed. I'm using 1280x720 project size.
Hi everyone,
Great news! We just released another update for Articulate 360 and included a few important fixes and new features that you'll see in the release notes here.
One of the fixes addresses an issue where Paragraph spacing on slide masters was incorrect after changing the project's slide size.
Just launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for Storyline 360. Details here.
If you’re still seeing this issue, or if you have any questions, reach out here or contact our support engineers directly.
This is great news to anyone who cares about typography and setting it just so. I wish it had been fixed sooner but definitely glad it's her now. Thanks.
This is an issue for me as well. On my Master Slide Layout I have a text box with line spacing set to exactly 22.5pt before, but when I apply or reset that Layout to a content slide, it defaults back to 1.0 spacing.
Hi Jordan!
As Ren mentioned above, this bug has been fixed in Update 30 of Storyline 360! If you're still seeing this bug and on the updated version of Storyline 360, I'd like for our Support Engineers to investigate further.
You can use this link to work with them to get to the bottom of the issue!
As I tested this further, it seems that if you copy and paste text into a custom Master, it's best to paste the text using the Keep Text Only option. I was copying and pasting text from a Word doc into my project, and clicking Reset Slide Layout would not clear that invisible styling that was copied over from Word.
