Custom Narration Boxes

Feb 10, 2016

Hello, I am trying to work out a custom narration box based on a template that my supervisor had created in a previous role but it appears that Storyline may be a little too limited on the intended output. Normally, we'd use the Notes tab and rename it narration, where the entire audio script would be posted. We're in the process of reclaiming some screen real estate from the player, so we're moving away from the player's built in menu and notes tabs and such. I had programmed in something very similar to what they'd wanted, but I can't seem to get everything to cascade down from the Master slide, which makes it difficult to duplicate. Attached is a picture of what I am trying to accomplish. I have a blue toggle button on the base layer of the main master slide, that when pressed both adjusts a variable (to be used later), and shows the layer "Narration". The layer Narration is unable to be seen while editing the rest, and using a text variable to call the narration text won't be an option unless there's a way to add in line breaks. The last search I did on the topic didn't turn up too many positive results.

Is there a way that I can get layers created in Slide Master to be available throughout the course? Or, can I just create a box that I can set to be Hidden or Normal based on that variable that I talked about creating, and have the box set to be like the "Click to edit Master text styles" box where it's visible on all slides and easy to just click and edit (and scroll)?

Hi, Jonathan -- Many thanks for reaching out with your question! May I ask if you have had a chance to review this information on Using Slide Masters? You may also want to upload your file so members of the community can check out the current set up and offer design ideas that may accomplish what you have in mind.

And with respects to the custom nature of what you've described, it also might be helpful to share your question over here, as well! :)
