Customize Invalid Answer With Drag and Drop and Word Bank

Sep 01, 2013

Having seen Jeanette's two video's about customizing Invalid Answer Layout I've figured it out for Pick One style of Quiz and for a Freeform Drag and Drop but not for the pre-programed Drag and Drop or for the Word Bank.

The conditions that are :

Show layer Invalid Answer when the user clicks submit on the condition that Item one is in it's normal state or Item 2 is in it's normal state or Item three is in it's normal state

Submit Interaction MATCHING DRAG AND DROP when the user clicks the submit button

on the condition that Item one is not in it's normal state

and item two is not in it's normal state

and item three is not in it's normal state

Doesn't work..  I get no feedback boxes at all.

Any ideas out there?

Hi Ashley!  I've attached the .story file.  It's totally stripped down because I just want to solve the problem before adding all of the design.

I've gotten both quiz types to the level that they both show the default Invalid  slide AND the custom answer slide.  Whenever I add the logic that says to use the custom slide when a,b and c are in 'normal' state, (changing both triggers) I lose ALL of the response boxes.

Thanks for your help!  Lucy

Hi Lucy,

This is a good question, and I bet someone has an answer.

You may have noticed that, for example, on your "here is the solution" slide, the invalid message is hiding behind the default message. You can make this work for other types of quizzes where you can add a trigger for the custom invalid answer message and conditions for the default invalid answer message. This is what allows the custom message to show through - or not.

So, in a T/F quiz:

show the invalid layer when Leaner clicks Submit if T or if F = normal

submit the interaction when Learner clicks Submit if T or if F = selected

or, for Fill in the blank

show the invalid layer when Leaner clicks Submit if textentry equals blank

submit the interaction when Learner clicks Submit if textentry does not equal blank

or on a pick one

same idea as the T/F

But, there are no states empty text boxes for Matching Drag and Drops or Word Banks.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Hi Lucy,

Thanks for sharing the file, and my apologies for not getting to it sooner. As Becky mentioned, the matching drag and down and word bank don't have states for you to work with. I've played around with your file as well, and can't seem to determine a workable solution for what you're looking to accomplish. I'll keep my eyes peeled for similar posts in the community that are looking to accomplish the same as you'd like to set up. In the meantime, we'll see if anyone else chimes in on this post.

Hi Ashley and Lucy,

Ashley, tx for purusing this. Hoping someone will have a work around.

But in the meantime, Lucy, a number of us have requested that in the next release Articulate change their approach with Invalid answer and make it into a layer, like the Correct and Incorrect layers. If you'd like to see that, please add your voice here.

Thanks!
