Customize the Lightbox

I have a project that has several lightboxes. I was able to easily create most of them using layers. However, 9 of the slides in this module need to access the same lightbox and then return to the original slide. The art department created slide art that has it's own look and feel, with soft grey X buttons and a small margin around the slide content. The built-in lightbox feature is perfect in terms of function. However, the pre-set parameters with a red button, wider margin and smokey grey background are not so perfect. Is there anyway to customize the look? Or do i need to add a "layer lightbox" on each of the 9 slides and forget using the built-in feature?
