Customizing Menu Behavior

Apr 12, 2019

I have 2 questions.

  1. How do you customize the menu so that it displays a slide when you click the lesson name in the menu? Currently, when I click the lesson name, it highlights the topic beneath it and displays the topic slide. My client would like to have the lesson name highlighted in the menu and display a lesson divider. Is this possible in Storyline 3?
  2. How do I keep the topic name highlighted when I have navigated to a subtopic that's hidden and not showing in the menu? This seems confusing to see the highlight appear and disappear as you navigate through the course.

Appreciate any help that can be provided!

Hello Michelle and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

Thanks for reaching out and sharing your questions about customizing your menu.

  1. It sounds like you are using the Scene Name as the Lesson name on the menu. By default, this navigates to the first slide in the scene as the 'scene' does not have a slide associated with it. You could create an Intro on the first slide of a Scene if needed.
  2. The individual slides get highlighted as you navigate through your course and not the scene name. If you've hidden a slide from displaying in the menu, then there is not any content to highlight in the list.

I made a couple of Peek 360 videos to assist:

I imagine this is what you see now.

Here's an idea that may work a bit better for you, but the highlight will still disappear if you've hidden items on the menu.

I'd love to see some additional ideas from users in the community.
