Customizing the Player Problem

Mar 16, 2015

Hi,

We have designed corporate player. After importing player config file (xml) for other storyline user, the player color settings change suddenly.  For example, bottom background becomes darker.

Is it bug?

Thanks,

Alper

Hi Alper,

So it's the player background that goes darker - not the slide background? Are you able to share the player with me as well?

To share a custom player, you'll first need to export a copy of it:

  1. In Articulate Storyline, go to the Home tab on the ribbon and click Player.
  2. When the Player Properties window appears, click Current Player on the ribbon and select Export.
  3. Browse to a location where you'd like to export the player template and give it a recognizable file name.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Share the *.xml file with other developers via email, USB drive, shared network drive, etc.

Tip: When you share a custom player, its color scheme is shared with it automatically. To save the color scheme separately, see the last section in this article.

Hi Alper,

Thanks for sharing the player set up. What update of Storyline 2 are you using? We're currently on Update 4. Do you have a project file where it's working as expected and it's only when you share the XML file? I saw the same dark background as you detailed in your images, but when looking at the color set up it matches what I'm seeing set - so it's hard to identify where the issue is occurring. Could you share the color scheme as described in that additional part of the article?

Hi Alper,

I already saw your player set up, and then there were different instructions to pull just the color scheme in that article - but this example won't load or open for me. It may be easier to continue to work on this particular issue through a case with our Support engineers so that they can look further into any system settings as well - do you want to reach out to them here? You can reference this thread and the steps we've already gone through.

Hi Ashley,

I'm not sure if you will pick this up, but I am experiencing the same issue as Alper in Storyline 360. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the application and downloaded the latest updates, but the problem still persists. I am also working locally.

Every time I edit the base - main background, the bottom color automatically turns to black or a darker color anytime I revisit that template or color scheme.

Weirdly, Storyline doesn't register that the original color has changed until you actually click to edit the item.

I also recall experiencing a few other issues before I got side-tracked with this one. Mostly around the changes I was making in the player template settings not being replicated in preview or published versions of the course. I don't have specific examples, this is more of a general comment, but I suspect this is being caused by the same bug/glitch in the system.

I have contacted my IT team for further support. But any advice you can offer in the meantime would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Reuben

Hi there Reuben!

It looks like you're trying to customize the colors of the Classic Player in Storyline 360, is that right?

I'm not having any luck recreating this problem in a new file, and I'd like your help ensuring I'm getting the steps right. Could you record a Peek of the steps you're following in the Player color settings? Also, are you using a custom player template?

Reuben Russell-Furlong

Hi Alyssa, yes I'm trying to customize the colors of the classic player in Storyline 360.

After conducting a few more tests. I can only replicate the problem if I set the transparency of the background to anything over 0%.

I do not have Peek installed and I don't think it is necessary to record the steps for such a simple process.

1. Open the Player settings in a New Project

2. Colors and Effects - Color Scheme (Default) - Show Advanced Color Editing

3. Base - Main Background - Transparency 1-100%

4. Click Ok

5. Open the Player settings again - for me, as described above, the bottom color will change automatically to black.

It's worth noting I have tried applying different colors and the same change happens to the bottom color every single time.

I can try uninstalling and reinstalling the software again, but I would really like to know if there is a permeant solution?

Hi everybody

we have an issue with resources tab and customer added player-tabs placed on top-bar left or right in Storyline 3, Update 7. In case of a customized color scheme the tabs becomes invisible, but selectable by mouse.

Please refer to the attached screen shot.

Thanks a lot for helping us to make the tabs visible again at any color scheme.

Hi, Reuben.

We appreciate your patience while our team investigated this.

I am happy to share some great news! We fixed the issue you reported where:
Classic Player with transparency changes bottom color to black

Be sure to install the latest Storyline 360 update (Build 3.49.24347.0) to take advantage of all the recent features and fixes.

If the problem happens again, please let us know, or you can always work directly with our support engineers here.
